Mount Pleasant History
The two-story, 4,500 square foot brick manor home of Flemish
bond, with slate roof offers two spacious suites on the second
floor accessed by separate staircase. A total of five spacious
bedrooms, three baths, a large country kitchen, formal dining
room with hand carved chair rail and French doors invite your
extended visit. This colonial masterpiece, circa 1830, the
estate itself was originally owned by the prominent Moon family
of Charlottesville, was reportedly designed by Thomas Jefferson.
Steeped in history, Mount Pleasant holds the Moon family burial
ground as well as the original cemetery for plantation workers
and their families. Mt Pleasant manor was
restored under the stewardship of former owner Bernard Arnault
and subsequently updated under its current ownership to offer
state of the art comforts while still preserving its rich
history.
